I was recently contacted by a good friend of mine to do a session for her Aunt.  Please meet Barbara and her loyal and loved companion, Rocky. Rocky is a beautiful little Havanese who is diagnosed with Cancer.  My friend Colleen wanted her aunt to have beautiful photos of Rocky to remember him always and I am so honored she chose me to do that. What a wonderful gift.

I’m so excited to share that the Humane Society of Flower Mound‘s “Love On Wheels” program has just rescued it’s 100th dog! Please meet Penny! Penny will be available for adoption soon in DeWitt, NY with Helping Hounds Dog Rescue.

HSFM started this program just a few months ago and has saved so many dogs facing euthanasia here in N. Texas in just a short amount of time. If you want to help, it’s so easy (and fun!). There are lots of ways to help. You can become a short term foster (2-3 weeks) until they are transported to NY to a fantastic rescue that actually has a shortage of dogs. It costs HSFM approximately $150 to send a dog 1500 miles to DeWitt, NY and give him or her a chance at a new life through Love on Wheels. You can also donate. When you sign up to be a Love on Wheels supporter, they’ll email you a picture and biography of a Love on Wheels dog YOU helped save. At the Long Haul Trucker level, they’ll also send you a Love on Wheels t-shirt. Please sign up today to be part of this lifesaving program! If you want more information on this program, visit HSFM Love On Wheels.

The Love on Wheels program’s mission is to alleviate the dog overcrowding problem in DFW area shelters by transporting adoptable dogs to areas where demand for adoptable dogs cannot currently be met. HSFMpays for all the veterinary care to prepare a dog for transport to our partners back east. None of that cost is recouped with an adoption fee like dogs that we place up for adoption here in Texas. The receiving group gets an adoption fee, but that goes to pay the cost of transporting the dogs.

Meet Penny, one of 100 dogs that has been saved from euthanasia so far. She also is my foster 🙂 She is just a puppy and so lucky to have a chance at a wonderful life with one very lucky family very soon!

Boxer tilting his head

(BTW, Finley is available for adoption at Save The Boxers)

Ever wonder how I get these adorable head tilts? Wonder no longer!  Crazy noises!  I’ve found some really unusual noises that seem to intrigue my subjects.

I use whistles, squeakers, duck calls, crow calls, squirrel calls, etc. The idea here is to find a noise that the dog has never heard before to really make him curious. AND!…. They even have an app for that! Browse your phone apps to find one you can download.  Or if you’re really talented, you can make crazy noises with your mouth. I’m pretty lacking in that department though 😉

  • Penny @ The Comforts of Home - Finley is a handsome guy! Love your tips for the tilt.
